Summer 2011
ENCAUSTIC PAINTING

July 18-22, 2011
Theresa McKnight
Explore the exciting possibilities of encaustic painting. This is an ancient medium that is being discovered by more and more Canadian artists. Once you see the luminous and textural properties of this beeswax-based paint, you will see why. During the week you will learn everything you need to know to set out on your own with encaustics. You will learn how to make your own non-toxic paint using beeswax and pigment, a little about the history of the encaustics and how to adapt everyday materials for encaustic painting. We will paint with brushes, melt and re-melt, carve into, scrape and drip. We will take control of the paint and perhaps let it go again. The possibilities are endless.
