
THE ART OF FELTING

Students will begin their exploration of felting with a crash course in learning how to dye fleece to create a unique colour palette. This newly dyed fibre will then be used in learning fundamental felting techniques. Through hands-on demonstrations and under Denise’s guidance, students will learn to felt 2 and 3-D as well as felting with a secondary fibre such as silk. Finally students will learn how to felt with a secondary structure such as gauze or organza. Open to all levels of experience.
Note: Materials will be purchased directly from the instructor (approx. $50.00 per person).

Denise Richard
Denise Richard is a 2005 graduate of the Kootenay School of the Arts at Selkirk College, having also studied at the University of Moncton in the Fine Arts program. She has been pursuing the medium of felt since the mid 1990’s, and her sculptural felt work has been exhibited in Canada and Europe. In her home studio, Richard is currently working on sculptural upholstered pieces while continuing the exploration of the many techniques in felt and boiled wool. Denise is also an instructor at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in Fredericton, NB where she teaches colour theory, dye methods, and felting.
