In this weeklong outdoor landscape workshop, Michael will demonstrate a variety of oil and pastel techniques, and explore methods for abstracting the landscape with intuitive, expressive colour. Students will learn the most effective way for capturing the beauty of the landscape quickly but without sacrificing mood and magic. Each day will begin with a lecture and demonstration in oil or pastel, followed by plenty of time for student work. Michael will give personal attention at the easel, complete with helpful tips and suggestions. Each day will end with a critique. Bring your oil paints or pastels - or both! Oil & Pastel. All levels of student are welcome.

Michael Chesley Johnson

Michael Chesley Johnson is an award-winning painter living and working in the Canadian Maritimes and the American Southwest. Elected a Master Pastellist by Pastel Artists Canada in 2008, he is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America as well as a juried member of Oil Painters of America. Michael is the author of Backpacker Painting: Outdoors with Oil & Pastel and Through a Painter's Brush: A Year on Campobello Island. He writes regularly for The Pastel Journal and The Artist's Magazine and has his studio gallery on Campobello Island, New Brunswick (Friar's Bay Studio Gallery.)
