School and Group Visits

"The aim of art education in the public schools is not to make more professional artists but to teach people to live happier, fuller lives: to extract more out of experience, whatever that experience may be."
~Grant Wood, painter

Sunbury Shores has a range of exciting and accessible programs committed to encouraging an increased awareness of visual culture and visual communication in our everyday lives.

TOURS:

School and other groups (including adult groups) are welcome to visit the gallery to view current exhibitions. There is no charge for a visit such as this. Please contact the Centre in advance to make arrangements at info@sunburyshores.org or call us at 506-529-3386.

HANDS-ON, MAKE & TAKE ACTIVITIES:

If you wish your students to take part in a hands-on art and/or nature activity (in addition to viewing the current exhibition), your visit can be tailored to suit the needs of your group. There is a small fee (from $5 - $15 per student - dependent upon activity) associated with visits such as this. Please contact the gallery in advance to make arrangements at info@sunburyshores.org. [These activities are open to adults as well as children and are tailored to meet the needs of the specific group.]

Please note: ALL group visits MUST be booked in advance. To book a visit, please email us at info@sunburyshores.org.

Teacher and Supervisor Roles:

Adults accompanying student groups are expected to support the teacher's goals in bringing their class to the Centre. Teachers and chaperones must supervise students at all times, including during snack breaks (if any), and during self-guided activities. Specifically, teachers and chaperones will be required to monitor students during in-gallery activities, assist with studio activities such as preparing and distributing materials, and clean up at the end of the activity.

Group Sizes

The minimum group size for a Hands-On/Make & Take Activity is 12 students. The maximum group size is 24. Please note that larger groups may be split in half (ie: Half the group can go for a self-guided beach walk while the other half takes part in a hands-on activity. Then the groups can switch.)

OUTREACH PROGRAM:

Are you interested in having Sunbury Shores come to your school? Contact us at info@sunburyshores.org to talk about the possibilities.
