"PLEIN AIR" - PAINTING AND DRAWING THE LANDSCAPE
July 28 - August 8, 2008
Sharon Yates

The diversity of the area's landscapes is the focus of this one, or two-week, program. Sites include the dramatic waterfalls and gorge of St. George and the intimate coves, rocky outcroppings, fascinating woods, and fishing establishments of Beaver Harbour and Deer Island, which contrast with the sandy red beaches, and rocks that characterize the shoreline of St. Andrews. Students spend mornings working as a group on directed painting assignments while afternoons are free for self-directed projects. The relation between drawing and painting will be emphasized. Daily, on-site, individual critiques are available along with several studio group critiques and slide lectures that will offer students a fuller perspective on landscape painting and increase skills related to artistic analysis. Some prior experience in drawing or painting would allow a student to take full advantage of this course.
